Virtual Platform FAQs
What does “semi-live” mean?
Nearly all presentations for this year’s conference have been pre-recorded. The pre-recorded presentations will be broadcast as indicated in the agenda, and the speakers will be live and present in the chat to respond to questions or comments for the entirety of the session.
What technology do I need to be able to participate?
For the best experience use a desktop computer or laptop with a strong connection and an internet browser. Supported internet browser are Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. If CEs are sought, we strongly recommend participating with a desktop or laptop to assure that the system accurately documents your attendance.
Can I use my tablet or phone to participate?
Yes, you can use any of the most up-to-date mobile devices (laptop, tables, smart phones) to participate; however, the visual elements will be easier to view on a large screen.
What time zone will be used for the virtual conference?
The conference agenda is in Eastern Daylight Time.
When will I receive the instructions for logging in and attending the virtual conference?
We will email you general instructions the week prior to the event to get familiar with the interface. However, your login information into the system will be emailed to you two days before the meeting.
I am a presenter at the event, what should I do?
Specific instructions will be emailed to the lead authors related to the type(s) of presentation(s) (concurrent session, panel, poster symposia, issue brief, poster session).
Will I have access to all educational and networking sessions?
Yes, you will be able to select which session you would like to attend. In case you missed any sessions, the recorded sessions will be available to all registered participants on-demand for 30 days after the conference.
Can I get CEs for any sessions?
A number of pre-conference sessions are approved for Psychology and Social Work CEs, see the agenda for details. We strongly recommend participating with a desktop or laptop to assure that the system accurately documents your attendance. Please note that AAIDD has approval to grant CEs only to those who participate in the scheduled, semi-live broadcasts. While you may watch the recording of a session later on-demand, AAIDD cannot award CEs to anyone on the basis of watching the on-demand recording.
Are sessions going to be presented concurrently?
Yes, just as an in person conference, you can move from one virtual room to another one.
Will I be able to ask presenters questions during the sessions?
Yes, presenters will be available to answer questions during their scheduled session using the Q&A chat feature.
Can I share my virtual conference login with other members of my organization?
No, only one device (computer, laptop, table, phone) at a time per registration will be allowed to enter the virtual platform.
Will there be an exhibit hall?
Yes, the interactive virtual exhibit hall allows attendees to visit exhibitor booths, collect information, and connect one-on-one with the exhibitor representatives.
Will I need to have a webcam video on to participate?
No, a webcam is not required to participate; however, the social events will be more enjoyable when attendees show their faces.
What accessible features are available?
Closed captioning: All speaker presentations will be closed captioned. The chat feature used throughout the platform is text-based and will not be captioned.
Color Contrast – Attendees can customize the color contrast of the platform’s display.
Font size – Attendees will be able to increase or decrease the font size to better suit your needs.
