IDD, Gender, & Sexuality

In general, sex consists of characteristics that are biologically defined and gender is based on a social construct of the characteristics of identity, such as norms, roles, and relationships of and between genders. Sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually, including biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors.

People with IDD deserve equal rights and opportunities to have control over, choices about, and access to their sexuality, sexual expression, and fulfilling relationships throughout their lives.

This page contains links to abstracts of articles published in the AAIDD journals of AJIDDIDD, and Inclusion. Article abstracts are open to all; AAIDD members can access articles at no cost. Additional articles may be found by searching the online journals platform.
