Public Policy Agenda
AAIDD, along with other national organizations that work for and with people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities, often have a shared vision, or agenda, for the public policies (legislation, regulation, appropriations, etc.) that shape the benefits, services, and supports that people with disabilities rely on.
National disability policy is driven by the U.S. Congress. National policies are implemented by both federal agencies directly and through federal programs operated by states. Federal agencies play a vial role in supporting programs that provide services, supports, and benefits for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and millions of people with disabilities have had improved outcomes as a result of federally-funded services, supports, and benefits.
