Step By Step, Inc. provides community support services to children and adults in Pennsylvania with intellectual disabilities, behavioral health and autism spectrum disorders.
Throughout its history, Step By Step, Inc. has maintained a progressive view of the potential of individuals with disabilities. It provides a broad spectrum of programs administered by a multi-disciplined staff of professionals with a singular focus on improving the quality of life for people with disabilities: Residential, Vocational, Clinical, Children’s and Community.
A pioneer in the development of community group homes, Step By Step, Inc. offers safe, supervised, home-like settings for over 2,000 clients in multiple Pennsylvania counties. The homes are designed for each individual to experience and learn skills necessary for living independently within a community setting.
Step By Step seeks a proven leader with a passion for its mission and a deep appreciation and respect for the people served. The next President & CEO will bring vision and a passion for helping people live their fullest and most independent lives possible. They will ideally possess knowledge of relevant services and funding mechanisms, including Medicaid and other sources of government and private funding.
The next leader will be one who recognizes and values the wealth of experience held by the staff. They will have the temperament and skills to continue the development of talented staff as well as a demonstrated ability to bring passion, vision, direction, business discipline and inspiration into the agency. The successful candidate will be a relationship builder and skilled at guiding the team towards shared success and positive client experiences. Having the humility to delegate is important, as is the ability to listen and lead with respect and consistency for staff, clients and community members alike.
Important personal qualities include approachability and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. A collaborative nature is a must. The next leader will have the ability to build and nurture a strong organizational culture while supporting internal policies and procedures consistent with the culture and values of Step By Step, Inc.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to articulate a compelling vision and keep people focused during challenging times as well as to invite new partners into the mission. This person will possess the highest level of oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with a broad range of individuals and organizations including Board members, families, funders, professional colleagues, public officials and community partners, as well as the media. Experience and innovation in recruiting and retaining talent is a plus.
A big picture thinker and ambitious leader, the next President & CEO must also be a knowledgeable manager with excellent administrative and operational skills and an understanding of best administrative practices. The successful candidate will possess strong business acumen to oversee all aspects of the business operation including but not limited to human capital, fiscal solvency, change management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. They will have demonstrated expertise in finance and financial oversight and will be comfortable with technology and management information systems. This person must be organized, goal-oriented and
decisive. Step By Step seeks a proven, accomplished leader with at least ten years of demonstrated success in running a large, complex human services organization with multiple locations.
A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of public administration, business, education or human services is required.
