Member Spotlight

Elaine C. Brown, PhD, FAAIDD
Chief Psychologist, State of Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division/Developmental Services

Member since 2001

Why did you join AAIDD?
I first joined AAIDD as a student member while completing my Doctorate Program through The Ohio State University, Nisonger Center.  AAIDD allowed me to connect with diverse professionals and students with whom I would share long standing connections and friendships.

Why did you choose the field of intellectual disability?
While studying psychology, I became interested in development, learning, and diversity.  This interest was also accompanied by my personal experiences having four siblings who have Down Syndrome.  I am so grateful to have had such amazing familial, educational, and vocational opportunities that have allowed me to pursue a career in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.  AAIDD has served as my professional home and it has been such a privilege to work with colleagues, families, and friends who share a commitment to promoting dignity and quality of life.
