The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is extremely pleased to announce that Colleen Thoma, PhD, FAAIDD, and LaRon Scott, EdD, have been appointed by its Board of Directors as the next Co-Editors of the Inclusion, the Association’s s peer-reviewed journal that provides a multidisciplinary forum for the presentation and discussion of evidence-based interventions and strategies that promote the full inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in society.
Dr. Thoma and Dr. Scott will succeed Michael Wehmeyer, PhD, FAAIDD, and Karrie Shogren, PhD, FAAIDD, of the University of Kansas as Co-Editors of Inclusion. The term of Drs. Wehmeyer and Shogren as Co-Editors concludes with the December 2019 issue of Inclusion. The first issue of Inclusion under editorship of Drs.Thoma and Scott will be March 2020.
Since 2013, the quarterly peer-reviewed journal Inclusion has addressed the needs of administrators, clinicians, policymakers and other professionals interested in intellectual disability and related developmental disabilities.
Dr. Thoma is a Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Scott is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In describing their vision for the future of Inclusion, Drs. Thoma and Scott see a role for the journal in influencing the effect of inclusive research on disability across social constructs, policy and practice, researchers and readership. Specifically, as Co-Editors they intend to continue to solicit high-quality manuscripts while increasing the number of special-topic issues, increasing the number of studies with an international focus, and promoting participation among and mentorship of graduate students and early career researchers.
Founded in 1876, AAIDD is the oldest professional association concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities. AAIDD advocates for the equality, dignity, and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and for their full inclusion and participation in society.
