Next Steps in Inclusive Research: Implementing NIH Advisory Committee Recommendations

Presenters:
- Jae Kennedy, PhD, Professor of Community and Behavioral Health, Washington State University College of Medicine
- Bonnie Swenor, PhD, Associate Professor and Director, Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center
- Alison Cernich, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development

Last December, the Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) of the National Institutes of Health endorsed a landmark report and set of recommendations aimed at addressing disability inequities in NIH research and policy. These recommendations, if fully adopted, would constitute a long overdue change in the way that NIH-funded research studies people with disabilities, and prioritize efforts to address ableism and inaccessibility across the biomedical research ecosystem. This joint presentation describes the basis for these recommendations and the challenges associated with implementation.
