Health Disparities Experienced by People with ID and those with other Disabilities

Content Overview:

While Americans with disabilities are considered a health disparity population, those with ID and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience more pronounced disparities than those with other disabilities. The disparities mean worse health status, health outcomes and less adequate access to care than the general population. We will share data on health disparities for the overall population of people with disabilities in the United States as well as recent, national data specifically focused on individuals with ID and ASD. Specific experiences of this population - in their own words - gathered from numerous national interviews and surveys will also be provided. An audience discussion of these quantitative and qualitative data will provide insights into policy changes and targeted interventions that might improve overall health and inclusion for people with ID and/or ASD.
