Executive Director (Transitional)/Director of Operations (DCCLP)

Company : Durham County Community Living Programs, Inc. (DCCLP)
Location : Durham, NC

DCCLP

Job Title

Executive Director (Transitional)/Director of Operations

About the Job

The new Executive Director (Transitional)/Director of Operations position at Durham County Community Living Programs, Inc. (DCCLP) is the cornerstone of a leadership transition at the nonprofit agency. It runs seven residential programs, a day program, and other periodic services in Durham, North Carolina for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

The transition, a key part of the nonprofit organization’s overall strategic plan, involves the current Executive Director’s upcoming step-down and eventual retirement. The transition is expected to be within two years from now. The Transitional Executive Director/Director of Operations will then assume the top position.

The former Executive Director is expected to stay with DCCLP to support the new ED and the organization until retirement.

A candidate is preferred to have residential IDD experience—not just experience in the IDD or mental health field. If that experience is in North Carolina, that is ideal but not required.  The candidate must meet the qualifications of a QDDP (Qualified Developmental Disability Professionals) in North Carolina, as well as all federal, state, and agency requirements for the position, including but not limited to a minimum Bachelor’s Degree and related experience, a clean criminal and driving record, excellent references, and residence in the Durham area or a willingness to relocate.

This position requires a committed, detail-oriented, mission-driven, team-oriented leader who is passionate about guiding our service programs and activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities into the future.

The Executive Director (Transitional)/Director of Operations reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. We are looking for the person with the compatible “fit” for our nonprofit agency.

The new Executive Director (Transitional) will be responsible for the operations, compliance, and evaluation of all programs and activities, as well as duties structured to enhance communication and rapport with current consumers, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Learn all there is to learn about the nonprofit agency and the Executive Director’s duties—and be fully prepared to take over those duties upon the current Executive Director’s upcoming transition to a supporting role.
  • Supervise the agency’s two assistant directors.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives.
  • Manage the organization’s finances, including: budgeting; reporting; fundraising; and maintenance of the physical facilities.
  • Develop, administer, and conduct client, stakeholder, and employee satisfaction surveys to improve services and program workflow.
  • Establish North Carolina and federal compliance standards and design improvements to internal control structures.
  • Establish quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the agency’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated—and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate the internal training program for current and new employees.
  • Lead coordination efforts and integration of Accounting, IT, HR, Fundraising, Outside Consultants, and Programs to ensure compliance, quality of service, and accurate data/budget reporting.
  • Communicate and explain new directives, policies, or procedures to managers.
  • For major changes, meet and train the entire staff on the changes, answer questions, and maintain high morale.
  • Coordinate and attend Board of Directors’ meetings.

Compensation

The starting salary will be set by the Board of Directors between $80,000 and $95,000 depending on experience and current compensation. There are meaningful opportunities for bonuses throughout the year.

Importantly, there is an attractive suite of benefits, led by agency-subsidized health insurance and health club membership. Each employee begins with two weeks’ paid vacation, which is increased by a week for each five years of service.

Available are employee-paid dental insurance, a 403-B program, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
