Founded in 1954, Berkshire County Arc (BCArc) is a financially sound human services organization with an annual revenue in excess of $40M.  BCArc offers a broad range of community-based services to individuals with disabilities, brain injuries and autism throughout Berkshire and Hampden Counties in Massachusetts. BCArc serves more than 1,000 individuals annually.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the President & CEO the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will have strategic and operational responsibility for agency programs where individuals live, work, and attend day services. They will directly supervise the V.P. of Residential Services and V.P. of Community Services as well as the Director of Nursing and Supervisor of Behavioral Supports. The COO will provide leadership to the strategic planning process and will implement new programmatic strategic initiatives. In addition, the COO in conjunction with the President & CEO will provide coordination for the senior management team; cultivate existing relationships with public and private funders; and work with Board of Directors as needed to keep them abreast of programmatic strategies and challenges.  The COO will contribute to developing, implementing, and managing the operational aspects of the annual budget.  In addition, the COO will ensure the implementation of policies and procedures, supervision of staff, maintaining budgets, evaluation of services and review for quality assurance.

Parents and family members are important people in the lives of individuals we serve. They have the basic relationship, natural advocacy, and years of experience as a specialized teacher of their family member. We must, therefore, ensure that all family relationships are nurtured and fostered and that families are involved in the planning of any program for their family member.

Qualifications of the Chief Operating Officer :

  • Master’s degree in human services field working with the disabled with at least 10 years of experience and a track record in senior level program management.
  • Exceptional organizational leadership with the ability to coach a senior-level staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all BCARC staff, individuals, general public and state

    regulatory agencies.

  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management.
  • Positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Track record of effectively leading a complex array of programs with the ability to facilitate strengths across program areas.
  • Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to point to specific examples of having led organizational transformation projects and program development.
  • Valid Driver’s License
