Chief Executive Officer (CareWell Services)

CareWell Services Southwest’s mission is to promote health, independence, and choice for seniors, persons with disabilities and caregivers. It is one of 16 area agencies on aging in Michigan created by the Older Americans Act and designated by the Michigan Aging and Adult Services Agency. CareWell Services Southwest is the Region 3B Area Agency on Aging serving Barry and Calhoun counties. As an area agency on aging, it is charged to identify the needs of seniors and develop plans to enable older adults to maintain their independence with dignity through person-centered services.

The next CEO must have a strong passion for the mission of CareWell. This person must have deep concern for the well-being of seniors and people living with disabilities. Candidates should have some attachment to the work in aging services; they should have program exposure and experience in area agencies in aging or healthcare; and understand federal and state programs impacting seniors or related human service fields.  Candidates for this position must have proven leadership qualities to bring vision, direction, a collaborative atmosphere, and inspiration to an organization.  The ideal candidate will possess management abilities highlighted by a track record of high-level nonprofit program administration, business and financial acumen, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, comfort and facility with public speaking, and a demonstrated presence within the human service, government, or philanthropic communities.

The CEO must develop strong collaborative partnerships not only in Calhoun County but also in Barry County. They will serve as “the face” of the agency. An ability to manage relationships in urban and rural counties, with a broad range of partners respectfully, transparently and equitably is key for the role. Listening and engaging with community organizations, as well as with the seniors served, to develop programs that address the isolation and loneliness experienced by seniors as they exit the pandemic is critical.

The CEO must have excellent communication skills that bridge seniors, media, partners and funders. They must be willing to participate in public and community events in Barry and Calhoun counties, learn about the needs of seniors directly and share the resources equitably across the region.

The next leader must be familiar with the federal and state grants process. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with funders, policy makers, and other sources of financial support.

The CEO will be responsible for the fiscal integrity of CareWell, ensuring that the agency remains in a strong financial position. They will work closely with the CFO to create and balance budgets and provide accurate financial reporting and sound fiscal management.

Personal qualities that will define the CEO include “Relationship builder, Honest, Listener, Decisive, Assertive and Creative.” CareWell’s leader will build a positive culture through collaboration and partnership while exerting influence. Humility will serve the CEO well, and yet they cannot shrink from providing leadership while managing change. The next leader must be able to inspire and evoke confidence and trust from the seniors and the community.

A proven ability to inspire and motivate staff, seniors and partners is essential to advance CareWell’s culture of Integrity, Quality and Compassion. They must be able to demonstrate effective management approaches in nurturing and developing talent while driving change.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.

The salary range for the position is $115,000-$125,000.
