David T. Helm, PhD

David Helm photoDavid T. Helm, PhD is the Director of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities, or LEND program, at the Institute for Community Inclusion at Boston Children's Hospital.  He was trained as a medical sociologist earning his degree from Boston University. He has been Training Director and now Program Director of the LEND program for the past 25 years and has worked in the field of developmental disabilities for over 40 years.  He has taught at Harvard School of Public Health in an adjunct position since 1991.

The LEND courses he coordinates are also accredited at six area universities including HSPH, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis University, Emerson College and Simmons College. Dr. Helm's latest book was the co-edited End-of Life Care for Children and Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, published by AAIDD in 2010. Currently he is working on book chapters on end of life care and interdisciplinary training. He has served on numerous advisory and editorial boards and on national committees including the board of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).
