DESCRIPTION:Date:&nbsp\;January 23\, 2019\nTime: 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST\
n\n&nbsp\;\n\nEnd of Life: Issues and Resources for People with Intellectu
al Disability and Caregivers\n\n\n\n\nVideos referenced during webinar can
be found here\n\nContent Overview:\n\n \nThink about not being told that
a close family member has died. Picture not being invited to the funeral.
Then imagine that no one will talk to you about the death or explain what
happened. Sadly\, a number of people with intellectual disability have fac
ed such distressing circumstances.&nbsp\;\n\nFor over ten years\, Australi
an researchers Professor Roger Stancliffe and Dr. Michele Wiese have colla
borated on a growing body of research that examines end-of-life issues for
people with intellectual&nbsp\;disability and their caregivers. They disc
overed that\, when it comes to dying and death\, many people with intellec
 tual disability are confronted with a benign conspiracy of silence.&nbsp\;
\n\nIn this webinar\, Roger and Michele will address these issues and what
can be done about them\, by:&nbsp\;\n\n1. Describing major research findi
ngs about understanding and planning for end of life by people with intell
ectual disability.&nbsp\;\n\n2. Presenting key results from their controll
ed intervention study which trained disability support workers to teach pe
ople with intellectual disability about dying and death\, and evaluated th
e outcomes. These findings include data on whether having repeated convers
ations about end of life affects outcomes such as depression\, anxiety\, o
r fear of death among participants with intellectual disability.&nbsp\;\n\
n3. Introducing and demonstrating a major new\, free online resource Talki
ng End of Life (TEL) &hellip\;with people with intellectual disability htt

ledge\, skills\, resources and confidence to help people with intellectual
