AAIDD Launches Online Continuing Education Courses for Developmental Disability Professionals

Learning management system offers plenty of choice in course topics, bundled packages, and accreditations within a flexible online environment

Washington, DC (April 5, 2011)

The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is pleased to announce the launch of continuing education courses and training opportunities for developmental disability professionals through its new Online Learning website. The website is launched in partnership with Essential Learning, a leading provider of e-learning services in human services. The AAIDD Online Learning website offers access to more than 300 courses developed by content experts and accredited by leading organizations in behavioral health and human services. The online courses help disability professionals get continuing education (CE) credits, remain in compliance with training requirements, improve staff performance, and deliver high quality services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

“AAIDD has led the field in developmental disability information through our journals and books program. This foray into online learning allows us to translate the wealth of information in printed resources into practical, skills-oriented courses for busy disability professionals,” says Bruce Appelgren, Director of Publications at AAIDD.

Over the years, online learning has established itself as an easy and cost-effective solution to invest in professional development. Through the AAIDD Online Learning system, disability professionals can select a course, complete the online exercises, take a test, and print a certificate for CE credit. Also, Essential Learning offers customized, organizational learning/training websites to human service organizations through its Elevate system.

Currently, the AAIDD Online Learning system offers courses on a variety of subject areas including developmental disability, aging, substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, compliance, workplace skills and more. Visit the site to learn more.

AAIDD members get a ten percent discount on any course accessed through the AAIDD Online Learning website or the Elevate Learning Management system. For any questions regarding the AAIDD Online Learning site, call 1-800-424-2688 ext. 201 or ext. 208, or send an email to books@aaidd.org.
