A nonprofit environmental research organization released results on over 900 common products tested for toxic chemicals including lead, cadmium, mercury, bromine, chlorine (PVC) and arsenic. Using an XRF analyzer, researchers at the Ecology Center analyzed the ingredients of pet products, cars, women’s handbags, children’s car seats and more, creating the largest database yet of independent tests of toxic chemicals in consumer goods. Visitors can look up products by manufacturer, brand, or product type and easily generate lists of highly rated and poorly rated products.
HealthyStuff.org tested for chemicals based on their toxicity, persistence and tendency to build up in people and the environment. Such chemicals have been linked to reproductive problems, developmental and learning disabilities, liver toxicity and cancer.|
Lead in lipstick, carcinogens in baby shampoo -- you've heard the rumors, now get the real story behind what's in your cosmetics and what you can do about it. A World of Possibilities A World of Possibilities is an award-winning, internationally syndicated, one-hour weekly radio program featuring solution-oriented conversations with innovators, pragmatic visionaries, thinkers and analysts developing effective new approaches to longstanding national and global challenges. The program is a project of Connexus Communications, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation. As a multimedia production, marketing and dissemination organization, A World of Possibilities, Inc. gathers and disseminates the most compelling stories of successful innovation for public benefit to a range of general audiences and specific constituencies in the United States and around the world. It encompasses two longstanding services – A World of Possibilities Radio and a post-broadcast curriculum development and dissemination service, Educasting. In 2009 we plan to create a substantial online innovation commons to serve as a clearinghouse and meeting place for collaboration between innovators in key fields where such initiatives are most promising and urgently needed. In addition, starting in 2009 we will convene a continuing series of broadcast public conversations highlighting breakthroughs in key fields of innovation for public benefit from the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley beside the UC Berkeley campus. |
