Clarence J. Sundram, JD, Special Advisor on Vulnerable Persons to Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, received the 2012 Dybwad Humanitarian Award today at the 136th annual meeting of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD).
The Dybwad Humanitarian Award Award is presented in recognition for exemplary promotion of human welfare and social reform.
Mr. Sundram is a lifelong advocate for individuals with disabilities. He drafted legislation creating the first independent oversight agency over a state’s mental health and developmental disabilities system–the New York State Commission on Quality of Care (CQC)–which he chaired for 20 years. Recently, Mr. Sundram was appointed as Special Advisor on Vulnerable Persons to Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York.
Founded in 1876, AAIDD is the oldest professional society concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
