Membership Criteria / Types of Membership
Active Member
Annual dues $165
Active Membership is for disability professionals who wish to stay current on the latest developments in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Active Members receive print copies and online access to our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. Membership also includes FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. In addition to having access to other disability professionals, Active members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and they have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Active Members will be notified about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
Active Sustaining Member
Annual dues $260
Active Sustaining membership is for current and future leaders in our field who wish to support the critically important research, policy, advocacy, and service Mission of the Association. Membership dues include print copies and online access to both of our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to networking opportunities with colleagues in the field, Sustaining Members receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and discounts on classified advertisements in AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free.
Active Sustaining Members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and they have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Sustaining Members receive print or email notifications of new publications and upcoming events such as training institutes, annual meetings, teleconferences, and public policy seminars.
Active E-Membership

tive E-Membership is for electronically savvy disability professionals who wish to access their information by electronic means only. E-Membership includes online access to our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. E-members have opportunities to connect with leaders in the field via list serves, blogs, e-mails, etc. Membership also includes FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Active E-Members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and they have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Active Joint Membership is available to households with two active AAIDD members who wish to receive only one set of print journals. Active Joint Membership includes one print copy and online access to our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. Joint Membership also includes FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates when posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. In addition to having access to other leaders in the field, Joint Members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Joint Members will be notified about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
Active Young Professional Member
Annual dues $75
Active Young Professional membership is available to college graduates who are new to the disability field and have incomes less than $25,000 per year. Membership includes online access to one of our highly ranked journals: either Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to having access to leaders and mentors in the field, Young Professional Members have their own Web page and they receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Young Professional Members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Young Professional Members will be notified electronically about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
Active Direct Support Professional
Annual dues $75
It is available to individuals who are on the “frontlines” of service delivery and have incomes less than $25,000 per year. Membership includes online access to one of our highly ranked journals: either Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to being able to access leaders and mentors in the field, Direct Support Professional Members will receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Direct Support Professionals are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Direct Support Professional Members will be notified electronically about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
Active Family Member/Self-Advocate
Annual dues $75
Active Family member/ Self-Advocate membership is available to individuals with disabilities and family members who have incomes less than $25,000 per year. Active Family / Self-Advocate Members have online access to one of our highly ranked journals: either Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to being able to access disability leaders and mentors, Self-Advocate and Family Members will receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Self-Advocate and Family Members are eligible to vote, hold office, to join Action Workgroups, and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Self-Advocate and Family Members will be notified electronically about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
Active Student Member
Annual dues $50
Active Student membership is available to full time students and requires the certifying signature of a faculty advisor. Membership includes online access to our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to having access to disability leaders and mentors, Student Members will receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; student discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Student Members are eligible to vote, hold office, to join Action Workgroups, and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Student Members will be notified electronically about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
This type of Active Membership is ONLY available to individuals making less than $25,000 per year.
Active Retired Membership
Annual dues $75
Active Retired Membership is for AAIDD members who have retired from the field but wish to remain involved in the Association. Active Retired membership includes online access to one of our highly ranked journals: either Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or the American Journal on Mental Retardation. Retired Members will receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; and they will continue to receive member benefits including conference discounts and reduced prices for books and other publications. In addition to being able to contact friends in the field, Retired Members are eligible to vote, hold office, to join Action Workgroups, and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Retired Members will be told about new AAIDD activities and they will be welcomed at all AAIDD events including training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, and other special activities.
This type of Active Membership is ONLY available to individuals making less than $25,000 per year.
Corporate Principal Membership
Annual dues $595
The Chief Executive of the sponsoring organization receives a full Active membership in the Association, which includes print and online access to both of our highly ranked journals: Intellectual Developmental Disabilities and the American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to having access to other corporate and national disability leaders, Corporate Principal Members receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; deep discounts for exhibit booths at the AAIDD Annual Meeting and Exhibit Show; a free listing in the Annual Meeting program; a 20% discount on registration fees for your employees who attend the AAIDD Annual Meeting; member discounts at training institutes; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free.
Corporate Principals are eligible to vote, hold office, to join Action Workgroups, and they have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Corporate Principals are notified about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, special teleconferences, and new publications.
As the Corporate Principal Member you can also enroll an unlimited number of your employees as members and you will receive a reduction in dues for each employee.
Corporate Active Membership
Annual dues $135
Corporate Active membership includes online access to our highly ranked journals: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and American Journal on Mental Retardation. Membership also includes FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. In addition to having access to other leaders in the field, Corporate Active members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups, and they have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. Corporate Active Members will be notified about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
For every five Corporate Active Members, one set of print journals (American Journal on Mental Retardation & Mental Retardation) will be sent to the individual designated by the agency as the “publications recipient”.
Corporate Young Professional/Direct Support Professional/Self-Advocate Member
Annual dues $75
This category of Corporate Membership includes online access to one of our highly ranked journals: either Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or the American Journal on Mental Retardation. In addition to having access to leaders and mentors in the field, DSP/YP/Self-Advocate Members will receive FYI-the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter; access to Washington Watch; member discounts at conferences; discounts on books and other publications; and reduced rates for posting classified advertisements on AAIDD’s Career Connections, our online career service where resumes are posted for free. Members are eligible to vote, hold office, join Action Workgroups and to have access to the Members Only section of the AAIDD web site. DSP/YP/Self Advocate Members will be notified electronically about important events, training institutes, annual meetings, public policy seminars, teleconferences, and new publications.
This type of Active Membership is ONLY available to individuals making less than $25,000 per year.
